Start Your Own Walking Club

December 2025. An 18-mile walk in the Malverns with a few old friends. We finished with aching legs, but plenty of laughs and the feeling we'd done something worthwhile. That was the start of what we jokingly called the Midlife Crisis Walking Club.
For many people over 40, life becomes a cycle of work, family commitments and routine. The weeks fly by and stress quietly builds in the background. Getting out for a walk is a simple way to break that pattern.
A few hours in the countryside helps clear your head. Walking makes conversation easier, and you're often more open when you're side by side rather than sitting across a table. Add a few old stories and some terrible jokes, and it's a great way to switch off for a bit.
Start small. Message a few mates, pick a local route and get a date in the diary. Apps like AllTrails and OS Maps make planning easy. If you enjoy it, aim a bit bigger next time. The distance isn't really the point. It's about spending time outdoors and having something to look forward to.
Get your boots on, go for a walk and have a proper catch-up. You might come back tired, but you'll be glad you went.
